William Jefferson Clinton was born on August 19, 1946 in Hope, Arkansas. His father was William Jefferson Blythe III, who was killed in an automobile accident before his son was born. His mother, Virginia Divine Blythe, later married Roger Clinton, who, although he never legally adopted him, gave his surname to young “Bill.” Mr. Clinton graduated from Georgetown University and won the highly prized Rhodes Scholarship to study at the prestigious Oxford University in England. Later, he graduated from Yale University Law School. He served as our nation’s 42nd President from January 20, 1993 to January 20, 2001.

Bill Clinton became a lawyer. He served as the Attorney General of the State of Arkansas and later as that state’s Governor. As a 17-year-old delegate to “Boy’s Nation,” Bill Clinton met President John F. Kennedy and was inspired to pursue a life of public service. In 1974, he ran for Congress from the third district of Arkansas, but was defeated. He was also defeated in a re-election bid after his first term as Arkansas’ Governor. He did, however, come back to win the State House four years later. In 1998, when some personal scandals came to light, the House of Representatives impeached President Clinton. After a Senate trial, he was acquitted and went on to complete his term of office.

President William J. Clinton married Hillary Rodham in 1975. They have one daughter: Chelsea. Mrs. Clinton is now a U.S. Senator from New York. They currently reside in New York.
