I
booked a ship to sail away and catch my breath of air
To find my island in the sun and lose my troubles there
She laid her wake through deep and dark… I paced her deck alone
And then I tripped and fell… and slipped beneath the briny foam
I am a man gone overboard
And cast adrift at sea
So far from home and all alone
There's no one here but me
My life has flashed before my eyes… sheer nothingness I see
With stars above and sharks below… no one's in sight but me
The lonely shipboard light grows faint… she races toward the moon
I
won't be missed until her list is checked in port at noon
I am a man gone overboard
And cast adrift at sea
So far from home and all alone
There's no one here but me
Instrumental |
I've given up my struggle now… no fear of sinking down
I've come to understand that to let go is not to drown
To be alive is to survive… I've made this mental note
I must relax and just lay back and thereby learn to float
I am a man gone overboard
And cast adrift at sea
So far from home and all alone
There's no one here but me
The sun is riding high… I pray
to guide my ship's return
There's water… water
everywhere… yet still I parch and burn
Though growing stronger in my
faith I wait my fateful sign
At last my ship's upon me and
her Captain's thrown a line
I was a man gone overboard
And cast adrift at sea
Though turned and tossed… and nearly
lost
I woke up… finding me!
